Chambers Global: EPAM Highly Recommended for the Key CIS Jurisdictions

For the sixth consecutive year EPAM has been highly recommended by one of the most reputable legal rankings Chambers Global 2017 for work in each jurisdiction of its presence across the CIS.

In Russia, the Guide recognises the Firm in Dispute Resolution, Corporate/M&A and Intellectual Property.

Traditionally the Firm's Dispute Resolution team gains its top position in Band 1 for both domestic and international categories. 

The Guide marks out the member of the Partners' Committee Dimitry Afanasiev and Managing Partner Ilya Nikiforov as Eminent Practitioners.

"A long-standing figure in the market”, Ilya Nikiforov is well known for his international disputes practice and remarkable insight into Russian law aspects. According to the Guide "he can put difficult concepts into simple language."

Partner and Co-Head of Litigation Practice Valery Eremenko is recognized for his broad practice focusing on complex domestic disputes, "he can handle very difficult cases and make them seem simple for his client." Valery represents major Russian companies in domestic corporate disputes and also acts for international clients on disputes connected to criminal investigations. He is also involved in bankruptcy disputes, principally representing creditors.

Partner and Co-Head of Litigation Practice Dmitry Dyakin who is praised for his "focus and drive" and “certain understanding of what he wants” is acknowledged for his work for state-owned companies in international arbitration cases.

Partner and Head of International Arbitration and Litigation Practice Evgeny Raschevsky is known as “a strategic lawyer" who handles both international arbitration and domestic litigation mandates. In international disputes, he often acts for domestic clients.

"Up-and-coming" Partner Denis Arkhipov is active in domestic disputes. Peers highlight his "dedication and tenacity," saying that "he tries to do everything for his client."

The Firm's M&A and Corporate Practice is recognised for being increasingly prominent on the international stage. One of the largest and professional teams on the market assists major government-owned Russian companies in cross-border transactions and joint venture-related work. The team is also marked out for its regular work with international firms, advising on the Russian aspects of global deals, and in-house UK law capacity.

Dimitry Afanasiev is commended for his strategic advice to major international corporations and notable state-owned Russian clients.

UK-qualified Partner Robin Wittering focuses on the English law aspects of transactional matters, acting for major international clients and large domestic companies. "He's done a very good job being an English lawyer in a Russian firm. I would trust him implicitly," a client emphasises.

US and Russian-qualified Partner and Head of M&A and Corporate Practice Arkady Krasnikhin, "a skilled negotiator and good manager" is known for his advice on corporate and transactional matters and is described as "a strategist, trying to find solutions which will satisfy everyone."

Highly regarded in the sphere of contentious IP matters, the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice advises both international and domestic clients on trade mark cases as well as counterfeiting matters, including criminal law aspects.

In Ukraine Chambers Global ranks EPAM among the country’s top law firms across all practice areas researched for the jurisdiction: Banking & Finance, Corporate/M&A, and Dispute Resolution, with seven lawyers ranked as leaders in their field. The guide also distinguishes the Firm’s and its experts’ international law capacities.

Dispute Resolution Practice is ranked in the highest Band 1.

On the individual side, the guide acknowledges Managing Partner and Practice Head Serhii Sviriba as “one of Ukraine's most prominent arbitration lawyers.” The peers note his “very high reputation in Ukraine.”

Partner Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi is marked as an expert in domestic and international arbitration who also “knows how to deal with a case and develop a strategy,” further noting his sports expertise alongside general disputes.

Partner Gleb Bialyi is recommended for domestic litigation projects, “lending his insight to financial disputes and disputes against state authorities."

Banking & Finance Practice is traditionally highly ranked.

Partner and Practice Head Roman Stepanenko is acknowledged as “a solid practitioner with vast experience in financing, project finance and capital markets deals, regularly acting on cross-border mandates.” Clients appreciate his flexibility in adapting to emergency situations.

Corporate and M&A Practice is recognised on both local and international levels.

Partner and Head of M&A and Corporate Practice Oksana Ilchenko is praised for expertise in transactional and advisory issues, including corporate and compliance matters, being “very efficient, knowledgeable and thorough.”

The Guide acknowledges Partner Ilona Zekely among foreign experts, who “advises German-speaking clients on conducting business in Ukraine” as well as “assists clients seeking to conduct business in Germany and Austria.”

Head of Washington office Andrew Mac is also commended by the Guide for his “ability to solve complex cross-border problems and unique appreciation of the cross-cultural issues inherent, i.e. in US-Ukrainian legal matters.”

In Belarus, EPAM is top ranked in Corporate and Commercial and recommended in Dispute Resolution.

Minsk Managing Partner Dennis Turovets is recognized for leading the team in the course of complex projects. His expertise and work approach attracts outstanding praise from clients. "He has very deep knowledge of local practice and comes up with creative solutions."

Partner Anna Rusetskaya is acknowledged for covering a wide range of corporate and commercial matters. Anna is an "extremely practical, commercial and client-focused lawyer, who understands the client's needs and is very strict with deadlines."
