International Arbitration in Hong Kong: Overview for Russian Parties
Sanctions and external political pressure have resulted in decreased interest in “going West” for many Russian businesses. Some of which have already faced the inconvenience of paying arbitration fees and arbitration honorariums in Europe. Unsurprisingly, Russian businesses are now increasingly looking towards neutral venues to resolve their disputes.
Can Hong Kong fill this niche and compete with the European venues traditionally preferred by Russian parties? Does Hong Kong address all of the current needs and meet the requirements of Russian businesses?
EPAM, together with Hong Kong International Arbitration Center and Hong Kong law firm Deacons, will provide Russian users with insights into international arbitration in Hong Kong, discuss its competitive edge, and cover the recent developments in Hong Kong’s legal system on April 8, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:30.
Specific topics to be addressed include*:
- Benefits of Hong Kong as forum for Russian Parties
- What should be included in an arbitration clause to avoid unpleasant surprises?
- How have recent legal developments influenced arbitration in Hong Kong?
Moderator - Ilya NIKIFOROV, Managing Partner at EPAM
Speakers:
- Ays Lidzhanova, Senior Associate at EPAM
- Victoria Khandrimaylo, Counsel at Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre
- Kwok Kit Cheung, Partner, Head of Arbitration Practice Group at Deacons
