EPAM Announces Appointments of Counsels

Effective January 1, 2020, the following Senior Lawyers of the Firm shall be promoted as Counsels: Oleg Bouiko and Denis Golubev (Litigation), Daria Ilyina (M&A and Corporate), Ildar Mustafin (WCC), Pavel Sukholinsky (Administrative Law), Sergey Ustalov (Energy) and Alexey Karchiomov (Maritime Shipping / Transport Law and International Trade & Customs in St Petersburg).

Oleg Bouiko advises and represents clients before Russian courts. He specializes in corporate, antimonopoly and bankruptcy disputes, and has represented clients in commercial, tax, insurance and financial proceedings. In 2019, he was recommended by The Legal 500 for dispute resolution and advising private clients. The Best Lawyers™ has also ranked him among the best litigation lawyers.

Denis Golubev advises and represents clients in commercial disputes before arbitrazh and general jurisdiction courts of all instances. He has particular expertise in pre-trial settlement of defamation disputes, and has been successfully representing clients in similar cases in courts. In addition, Denis advises clients on various aspects of family law.

Daria Ilyina specializes in civil and corporate law matters, in particular, corporate governance. Daria has experience in counselling on corporate procedures at Russian public and non-public companies, M&A (share deals/asset deals), company reorganizations (including mixed reorganizations). She has experience in legal counselling on large infrastructure projects implemented in the form of joint ventures, due diligence of groups operating in various fields. Daria is skilled in civil and corporate legislative drafting. She was engaged in the drafting of proposals for amending the Russian Civil Code while on task forces of Non-Profit Partnership For Advancement of Corporate Law.

Ildar Mustafin advocates clients in the course of pre-investigation checks, preliminary criminal investigations, as well as criminal trials in the first-, second, cassation- and review-instance courts. Ildar has extensive experience in representing clients in the course of prosecutor’s checks, judicial challenging of property arrests imposed as part of criminal proceedings, and drafting of opinions on potential criminal risks of companies’ financial and economic activities.

Pavel Sukholinsky, PhD in Law, specializes in corporate law and legal support of industrial projects, including routine business support, corporate governance, as well as company reorganization and restructuring. He advises clients on legislative and administrative matters. He has extensive experience in managing legal departments at major Russian industrial corporations, including state corporations. For a number of years, Pavel has been on the Committee for Improvement of Legislation in the Military-Industrial Complex and the Hi-Tech Industry with the Defense Enterprises Assistance League Association, and has served on the board of directors of several major Russian companies. He has authored the book Towards Law and State and a number of pieces on the theory of law and political science.

Sergey Ustalov is a deputy head of the Energy Practice and advises clients on legal regulation of the wholesale and retail electric energy and power markets operation, transmission of electric power and process connection, implementation of investment projects for construction of infrastructure and generation facilities, purchase and sale of energy assets in heating, and housing & utilities. Sergey has over 15 years of experience in electrical energy law. For 8 years, Sergey has been on the list of best lawyers, according to Best Lawyers™.

Alexey Karchiomov based in St Petersburg office focuses on maritime law and counselling on foreign trade activities. He advises clients on a wide range of matters arising from engagement in international trade, as well as on technical and foreign-currency regulation and export control. As related to maritime law, Alexey advises on building, sale and purchase, registration, management and chartering of ships, settlement of disputes and claims arising out of charters and bills of lading, ship-owner liability limitations, imposition and removal of arrests, and marine insurance.
