Saveliy Chentsov represents both Russian and international companies, advising clients on a wide range of matters related to maritime shipping and international transportation. He also represents clients in Russian courts and in international commercial arbitration proceedings.

Saveliy’s recent projects include:

  • Providing comprehensive legal support to a client in relation to funding, construction, purchase, and operation of yachts.
  • Advising the owners of a floating structure on a litigation strategy for the recovery of damages due to losses arising from a contractor’s breach of a towing contract.
  • Representing a cargo owner in an LMAA dispute over the cancellation of a voyage charter by the shipowner due to complicated navigation conditions.
  • Defending a major Russian hydraulic service customer in a dispute with its foreign contractor; advising on the attachment of the contractor’s seagoing vessels.
  • Representing an insurance company in a dispute over the partial replacement of tanker cargo carried on the vessel with seawater.
  • Advising an extraction company on the development and implementation of its project for the construction of a series of bulk carriers at an international shipyard.
  • Defending a shipowner in relation to the settlement of losses caused by the failure of the main engine in storm conditions and displacement of deck cargo; declaring of an accident, negotiating with members of the joint maritime venture, and defending the ship-owner in the dispatch process.

Saveliy received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Faculty of Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Additionally, he earned his LL.M. from the University of Hong Kong in 2016.

Before joining the Firm in 2023, Saveliy worked at leading Russian law firms, where he dealt with maritime law and advised on business and corporate disputes, as well as on disputes involving security issuers. He was seconded to leading foreign law and adjusting firms servicing the maritime transport sector.

He is fluent in English.
