The Moscow office of EPAM holds discussions on “Intellectual Property Protection in Digital Media”

On April 22, 2014, the Moscow Office of EPAM hosted discussions on intellectual property protection in digital media as part of the 7th International Forum on Intellectual Property in the 21 century organised under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organisation.

The meeting was opened by Leonid Agronov, Director General of the National Federation of the Music Industry (NFMI). He addressed the open licensing regulatory aspects and the challenges in the area.

The floor was then taken by Pavel Sadovsky, the Head of IP/TMT at EPAM,  who moderated the discussion. He covered the most challenging aspects of the intellectual property rights protection in Internet and reviewed the current trends and the existing practice.

Dmitry Polyakov, the Head of Intellectual Property Protection at Kaspersky Lab, invited the attendees to the meeting to consider efficient protection of the patent rights to IT solutions: during the сase study he reviewed a number of illustrative cases and outlined 10 guidelines to efficiently fight against patent trolls.

Irina Kosovsaya. Associate at EPAM, presented a report on “Protection of Software Developers’ Right”. Irina addressed the licensees’ remedies in case poor quality software has been purchased under licensing and hybrid agreements, the ways to avoid the risk of erroneous transactions being invalidated, as wells as the interim measures in domain disputes.

Alexey Kubyshkin, lawyer at the Russian Organisation for Intellectual Property (VOIS) talked about the global licensing in digital media.

Mikhail Bashirov, Managing Partner at Bashirov & Partners, concluded the meeting with his report highlighting the Russian legal regulatory aspects in view of cloud calculations.

The meeting was attended by around forty heads of legal departments at the largest Russian and international companies. All reports were followed by lively discussions on the most topical issues.
