Sergey Kovalev, Partner at EPAM, spoke at the XVII International Sports Law Congress organized by the International Association of Sports Law (IASL) on 27-30 September at Moscow's International Trade Center.
The Congress is organized by the Moscow Department for Physical Training and Sports in collaboration with the International Association of Sports Law (IASL) and Kutafin Moscow State law Academy.
The event is attended by prominent academics from various universities, researchers and representatives of authoritative international sport and the Olympic movement organisations.
The Congress sessions are dedicated to legal aspects of sport, particularly those dealing with the International Sports Charter and international sports activities. Furthermore, the sessions cover general theory of sports law, the Olympic law, and European aspects of sports law.
Sergey Kovalev, Partner at EPAM, spoke at a session dealing with sports dispute resolution covering the following issues:
- competition between the jurisdiction of state courts and specialized sports courts in resolving sports disputes;
- sports arbitration;
- resolution of sports disputes by sport federations (setting up ethics committees, dispute resolution chambers, disciplinary committees: founding principles, operational policies, nature of resolutions passed).
