St Petersburg hosted today the Seminar on Ethical, Legal and Technical Means of Copyright and Other Rights Protection on the Internet, organized by the St Petersburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Leading intellectual property lawyers, IT companies, non-governmental organizations and ethics researchers presented practical guidelines on protecting intellectual property rights on the Internet. They spoke about what preventive technical and legal measures are needed to protect information when putting it on the web.
The Seminar focused on the following topics:
• Russian Legal Rules Governing the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights on the Internet;
• Internet as an Object of Law: Legal Loopholes;
• Intellectual Property and Copyright: Technical Protection of Information;
• Risks of Publishing Information in the Internet: How to be Protected and What Should not Be Done;
• Liability for Copyright Violation on the Internet;
• Legal Culture of Modern Russian Society.
Irina Stepanova, a senior lawyer and head of the intellectual property practice at EPAM, spoke about the liability for copyright violation on the Internet.
