ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR sets new precedent by appointing Russian practitioner as Vice-Chair

On 1 January 2014, Ilya Nikiforov was named Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). This is the first time a practitioner from Russia or the CIS has been appointed as an officer of the Commission.

The appointment is a mark of recognition for Ilya Nikiforov’s professional experience and competence. An arbitration heavyweight with international clout, Nikiforov is among the leading names in dispute resolution in Russia and the CIS.

Ranked as a top-tier professional by Chambers, Best Lawyers, and others, he is applauded for his creativity and hands-on approach. An active member of the professional community, Nikiforov is also an officer of the Russia/Eurasia Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of International Law and of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association.

The Commission on Arbitration and ADR is the ICC's rule-making body and a unique think tank in the field of international dispute resolution. Advocates, in-house counsel, arbitrators, mediators, and academics all take part in this forum. Working on a global scale, the Commission aims to promote the settlement of international disputes through arbitration, mediation, expertise, dispute boards, and other forms of dispute resolution.
