EPAM have secured the denial of a claim for a major international electronics manufacturer in an Intellectual Property dispute in Russia.

The action was brought by Russian inventors against one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers. The plaintiffs alleged that the company is infringing their rights to an invention and demanded to ban the import of certain models of refrigerators into the Russian Federation.

EPAM built an effective line of defense against the claim. The opponents’ patent was found invalid and as a result, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow denied the relief sought.

"Court disputes between world-famous companies and unknown inventors, who invoke the infringement of their rights, are not uncommon," – says Denis Arkhipov, Senior Associate at EPAM. - "In these situations, we advise the companies to seek revocation of patents of the opposite side, because inventions of plaintiffs do not often meet the criteria of novelty, inventive step or industrial applicability. We also used this strategy in these proceedings, which helped us obtain a favorable judgment."
