Dimitry Afanasiev, the Chairman of EPAM, and Evgeny Raschevsky, firm’s partner delivered a speech at The ‘Russian and CIS Mergers and Acquisitions’ Conference held in Moscow on 28-29 October 2010.
The conference was organized by the Corporate and M&A Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and the European Regional Forum of the International Bar Association in collaboration with the M&A magazine.
The conference, chaired by Per Berglof, senior vice-president of IBA’s Corporate and M&A Law Committee, was attended by representatives of law firms from Russia and the CIS as well as France, Germany, Sweden, Belgium and Luxemburg.
The guests and participants discussed major M&A market trends in Russia and the CIS, structuring M&A deals (prospects for national and foreign law in Russia and the CIS), antitrust regulation of M&A cross-border transactions in Russia and the CIS, international M&A market trends and their impact on Russian and CIS transactions, taxation issues of M&A deals in Russia and the CIS and dispute resolution related to mergers and acquisitions.
Dimitry Afanasiev joined the roundtable session on the subject of ‘Trends in International M&A Deals and Their Impact on Russian and CIS Transactions’ discussing the trends in M&A deals in the US and European markets, including Russia and the CIS countries. Particular focus was on the matters of reconciliation of transaction terms for strategic investors and private equity funds, amendments in bidding procedures and the impact of the financial crisis on transactional structures in general.
Evgeny Raschevsky delivered a speech at the ‘Dispute Resolution Related to M&A’ session. The session attended by in-house lawyers and leading attorneys focused on client requirements for various methods of resolving disputes arising from M&A deals. The speakers thoroughly assessed the existing methods of resolving disputes including litigation, expert examination (resolution of disputes by an expert), mediation and arbitration courts and reviewed methods of reducing costs, time and retaining business relations in conflict situations.
