Igor Shikow speaks at Moscow Forum organised by Munich Re

Igor Shikow, Head of Tax Practice at EPAM delivered a speech on reinsurance forum organised by the world’s largest reinsurance company Munich Re at Moscow’s National Hotel.

The forum was attended by representatives of leading Russian insurance companies, the Federal Service for Insurance Regulation and insurance risk appraisers. The discussion was dedicated to the appraisal of award damages by insurance companies and inclusion of VAT into the insurance compensation.

Munich Re regularly holds such forums in the business breakfast format. Thanks to the relevant topics offered for discussion and the opportunity to hold open dialogue, the events attract leading players in the Russian insurance market.

Igor Shikow's presentation triggered lively discussions as to whether insurers had an obligation to reimburse for damages given that VAT amounts paid in the course of restoration or replacement of damaged or lost property were not in the strict sense damages for the insured if it was a VAT payer and may exercise its right to tax deductions.
