St. Petersburg International Legal Forum 2016: Alexey Karchiomov to Speak at Round Table on ‘Lawyers Guarding State Interests: Russia's Participation in the Silk Road Economic Belt Project’

On 19 May 2016, a satellite event of the sixth St. Petersburg International Legal Forum will be held in St. Petersburg entitled ‘Lawyers guarding state interests: Russia’s participation in the Silk Road Economic Belt project’. The roundtable event is being organized by the Mediterranean Shipping Company. Alexey Karchiomov, Senior Associate at EPAM, will speak at the event.

The roundtable will be devoted to the need to realize Russia’s transit potential, including making effective use of the country’s favourable geographical location for transporting goods between Asia and Europe, and optimizing the legal framework, which may serve as an additional impetus to increase Russia’s investment attractiveness and secure its long-term strategic position in the region. There will be a particular focus on the need to create the right legal framework in order to develop the capacity of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region as major international logistics centres. Outcomes of the meeting will be used to determine measures which may help to attract investment and strengthen strategic positions in the region and to create a discussion platform for the further exchange of views between representatives of state bodies and the legal and business communities. This will help to improve the legal framework, which could become a tool to protect state interests in international logistics projects.

Alexey Karchiomov will give a presentation on ‘Legal regulation of multimodal transport: The path to unification’.
