Ilya Nikiforov to Participate in IV Annual Russian Arbitration Association Conference

On 20 April, a conference organised by the Russian Arbitration Association will take place in Moscow. As in previous years, it will bring together leading arbitration experts from Austria, Belarus, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, Finland and Sweden. This year, conference invitees include representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation as well as those of foreign arbitration centres (LCIA, ICC, SCC, VIAC, SIAC, HKIAC) and the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The four sessions of the conference will focus on the following current issues:

  • the gradual Americanisation of international arbitration and whether the time has come to develop inquisitorial rules of evidence;
  • arbitration reform, with representatives of international arbitration institutions sharing their opinions on the registration process in Russia;
  • high-profile arbitration cases of 2016;
  • where to turn in corporate disputes;
  • women in arbitration, and how women arbitrators are perceived.

Ilya Nikiforov, Managing Partner of the St. Petersburg Office of EPAM, will act as moderator for the first session of the conference, in which participants will discuss some of the latest changes in international arbitration stemming from the influence of US legal practices. Ilya Nikiforov is Deputy Chairman of the RAA Board and actively participates in events run by the Association.
