Ilya Nikiforov appointed Vice-Chair of ABA International Russia/Eurasia Committee

On June 11, 2013, Ilya Nikiforov, Managing Partner of the St. Petersburg Law Office of EPAM, was officially appointed Vice-Chair of the Russia/Eurasia Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law (ABA).

Appointment to the Committee leadership positions is normally based on candidates’ competence and achievements. Committee leaders who perform effectively may be reappointed. As a result of the highly favourable assessment of his work with the Committee, Ilya Nikiforov was appointed as Vice-Chair of the ABA International Russia/Eurasia Committee for the second time.

As Committee’s Vice-Chair, Ilya Nikiforov will endeavour to encourage members to get involved in the work of the Section, stay abreast of international developments in their field of interest, interact with their peers from around the world, and pursue projects which improve the legal system and promote the rule of law. Mr. Nikiforov’s term as Vice-Chair of the Russia/Eurasia Committee will run until August 2014.

As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programmes that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.

The ABA Section of International Law, which has more than 20,000 members across 90 countries, is the leader in the development of policy in the international arena and plays a key role in the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners. It focuses on the development of interest, activity and research in international and comparative law and related areas, and the promotion of professional relationships with lawyers similarly engaged in foreign countries.
